Guide 3 · Welcome
Make RGN useful to you
You don't need to use every part of Runners Gateway to get something worthwhile from it.
If you came for an article, read the article. If you want a plan, take a look at Training. You can explore further when there's a reason to.
Here's where the different parts can help.
Guidance and plans
Pathway explains the things you might want to understand: how to begin, what easy effort means, where walking fits, and what to do when life changes. Members can save private reading progress, but anyone can read the public guides.
Training holds the published plans and their sessions. You can read them without an account. If you'd like dates and saved progress, membership lets you keep a personal copy in Training.
Reading about a session and doing it are different things. Marking a Pathway guide as read doesn't complete anything in your Training plan. Your detailed Training progress and Pathway reading record remain private.
Choose a plan for where you are now can help if you're unsure which starting point fits. Walk Run Achieve is our gentler structured route towards a first 5 km; walking is also a complete goal of its own.
A little variety, and other people
Monthly Focus gives you a timely invitation to reflect and take part, with or without a training plan. The Weekly Quiz is there for some running-related fun. Neither has to become another thing to keep up with.
If you join, your Run Card introduces you, Explore helps you find people, and Journey holds your updates and story.
Check your Journey audience settings before relying on them. Your default begins as Private, but you can change it. Some completed activities can create Journey milestones using that default, so you don't necessarily choose an audience separately every time. Check the audience on an individual entry too. Detailed private notes and plan information aren't published just because a milestone exists.
Use one thing well
Perhaps today's useful step is a first walk or run. Perhaps it's reading the first week of a plan. Perhaps it's finding a guide you want to return to.
Choose that. You don't need to make using the website a second training programme.
